SAAB VIGGEN
This model was designed by Colonel Bob Thacker and was featured in the July 1986 Scale R/C Modeler. It has excellent slow speed flight characteristics due to the canard design and the large wing area afforded by the delta wing and canard which is also a lifting surface. Bob's prototype uses a Rossi .81 and Byrojet fan in a fiberglass fuselage with foam wing cores. B & D retracts are shown on the plans, along with the engine and fan installation and details of the tandem landing gear the way Bob did it. 32 square feet of blueline blueprint plans and a reprint of the construction article are included. This is the earliest variant of the Viggen, and is built by making a foam plug for the fuselage and laying up the glass fuselage over the foam, after which the foam is dissolved with a solvent.
