All the joints are given a going over with Titebond III, including the capstrips.
Balsa is added to shape the lower section of the rudder to fair to the aft fuselage.
The top of the rudder has been
clipped and a companion piece of balsa was added to the fin. This
will receive a 1/16 music wire pin to become the upper pivot point for
the rudder.
I did not include this detail
on the plans because it seems like everyone has their own favorite way
of hingeing control surfaces.
Tools used to shape the
leading edge of the elevator. The shaping should be done so
that there is a constant radius about the center of the carbon
fiber center joiner.
After aligning the
elevator with the stabilizer, at the location of the outer hinges a
T-pin was pushed through at the same height as the carbon fiber center
joiners. The elevator was
separated from the stabilizer
and a guide hole was drilled through both components from the front of
the elevator and the back of the stabilizer to get exact alignment.
