The longerons are 3/8 square
balsa. They were cut from 3/8 sheet using a small table
saw, lighter wood can be produced at less cost. The top longerons
are about
53 inches long, the
lowers are about 65 inches long. They were spliced using a scarf
joint as shown here, glued together while clamped against an aluminum
angle.
Starting fuselage
construction. There is a table showing lengths of all the side
verticals and diagonals, and also the horizontal members. The
lengths allow for sanding to the proper angles.
The first fuselage frame completed, with all of the side verticals and diagonals cut for both sides.
The second frame is build on top of the first, separated by plastic wrap.
Parts that are within the range of the digital caliper are cut using it and this razor saw.
