High Quality Plan Sets for Radio Control Aircraft
74 inch San Josè
A 1948 design by Antonio Arria

A front support in the manner of the plan was incorporated but a 1/16 length of music wire was doubled to give
more bearing area for the rubber bands and to allow a screw to be inserted into the upper cabin frame laminations.

A length of brass sheet was soldered to the lower end of the wires, then drilled for a screw which retains the wire on the front side of F1.  I made an
ugly mess routing the wires through and fitting them.  That was fixed by laminating some 1/16 balsa underneath and filling in the top, sanding to match.

1/16 plywood was faired in behind F5 to hold a 3/16 carbon fiber tube for the rear rubber band attachment.  Trying to use the wire method back here
will complicate running the control components.  An option would be to face the upper part of F5 with 1/64 ply to tie it to the side 1/4 balsa longerons.
The rubber bands pull down pretty hard and it may be wise to reinforce the wing trailing edge in this area.  The free flight plans showed
aluminum wrapped around the trailing edge.

The hinge and control horn parts.  The horn and the upper hinge are made from G10/FR4 circuit board material, the hinge pins are .030 or so.
The lower music wire pin is CA-d into the rudder.  The upper hinge pin was inserted after covering and a drop of Titebond III locks it in.
The control horn was not installed until after covering using thin CA.

Test assembly before covering.

Carbon fiber rod was used for the outer elevator hinges.  A T-pin was pushed through concentric with the center of the
radius of the leading edge to locate the holes to drill.  The rod is .075/2mm.   The rod was not installed until after covering.
