Align the
spars with the lines indicated on the plan for the spar root ends.
Once the spars are located and the W2 rib is in
proper
position,
tack glue the rib and
fix its position with pins on both sides. Do the same
at the tip rib and then align
and tack glue the other ribs. W1
ribs are installed after the wing center is built. Use thin
CA very sparingly for tack gluing.
Wing
tip details. I prefer wing tips that sweep up as they are easier
to cover but this type is easier to build. On the top a separate
piece of covering must be used from the
last
rib out.
Triangles
were puchased from OSH, a local hardware store. Holes are
drilled in the flanges so they can be pinned to the building
board. This method
results
in very true wing alignment. Wing spars butt together at the
center line and the dihedral brace is very effective in setting and
checking the dihedral angle.
There
are reference lines on the plan to align the wings and and triangles.
It worked best to set the Simplex wing panels on the
trailing edge as the leading
edge
is not at the bottom of the wing surface and would not touch the
supports. The name for the square is Swanson Speedlite
Square,
mine
are 8 inch but they also are available in 12 inch sizes. http://www.swansontoolco.com/product/speedlite-square-orange/
