1/2
inch soft balsa blocks make up the sides of the nose. The motor
mount parts should be built up first and then the balsa sides are glued
on and sanded to shape.
The
battery is a 2200 mah 3-cell lipo on one side of a balsa divider.
On the other side is the speed control. The motor is a 480
size, in this case a Suppo BL-2814/8.
The
prop is an 11-8. The motor can stand more prop if the speed
control is adequate. I have run 12-7 props with a Thunderbird 54
ESC and this motor on old timers.
The
nose weights were made by melting old tire weights and white metal into
a lid from a metal can. The lid was peeled
off and the weight
was cut in half and epoxied on both sides. The
shaft with the little gear was from a helicopter drive
shaft. Waste not want not. It
and the carbon fiber wing hold down rod hold a rubber band that holds in
the battery.
Bottom view.
One of the wires that hold the landing gear on is visible in
there. .041 stainless safety wire works good.
