Co-Pilot's instrument panel. Not all
CH-37's had dual 5 inch attitude indicators. Some had a J-8
non-tumbling AI on the left. All of the flight operations in our
unit were done with a minimum
crew of three, Pilot, copilot, and flight engineer. The flight
engineer was outside the helicopter
during startup and shutdown to monitor any abnormalities, and to
verify the position of the blade
droop stops, which had to drop in as the rotor slowed down to
prevent the fully articulated rotor
from allowing the blades to strike the aft fuselage.
