Fast forward from July 2015 to August 2016, and the model is complete.  For some reason I just kept getting in to different projects, among them the B-36 and a bunch of R/C models.  In any event, I did return to this one.
I bought some aftermarket cowls but they were rather thin resin and still did not capture the proper shape of the front of the cowls.  In the end I opened them up in front about a milimeter.  As soon as I finished the
model it was apparent to me that there should be a visible radius on the inside of the cowl which markedly changes their appearance.  I'll get that right on the next one.  I adapted Monogram nose glass as the shape
and thus the framing of the AM parts looked "pinched" to me after studying photos.  You can go to my page on the B-25, http://www.yolo.net/~jeaton/Propplanes/b25/b25.htm , where there are excerpts from a
wartime B-25C/D maintenance manual, to study these details for yourself.
