Risner's F-86E
The
Korean War theatre stripes were painted using Tamiya flat yellow and
Testor's square bottle gloss black. To get the spacing correct
and line widths uniform I cut
strips of Tamya tape in the correct widths and applied it all, then
removed the black areas and painted that, then the black was remasked
and the yellow was sprayed.
After the yellow had been cured and buffed to a near gkloss, the
stripes were masked off again and the nmf was applied. Tedious
and time consuming, but I like the
result. I find it difficult to get as nice a result with decals,
and in any event the Academy decals were thick and resistant to any
known decal solvent.
