The decals were drawn
in CorelDraw 11 from photos and printed on an ALPS MD-1000 printer, as
well as from a Monogram F-86F sheet and a few small stencils from the
Academy sheet. Risner's airplane had interesting markings,
combining the rabbit detective trying to read the small print on the
discharge papers, an allusion to the people recalled for the Korean
conflict when they thought they were done after WW II service, and the
4th FG 336th Squadron markings, the Rocketeers. I have not seen
these markings done by the usual aftermarket sources or in a model kit.
Risner's story is in his book, "The Passing of the Night", which
also details the seven years he spent as a guest of the North Vietnamese
after being shot down in an F-105. In this F-86E he pushed his
wingman's F-86 out of North Korea and out to sea after it flamed out, by
putting his nose into the other airplane's tailpipe.
