The IP address is the numeric address unique to the system. This address may be assigned dynamically, that is, a different address is assigned by the provider from a pool each time the user logs on, or is permenantly assigned to the user. This should not be confused with Domain Name, which is a name regestered with the USC-ISI and is commonly associated with a system and system IP address. Your provider has a domain name, afes.com, which is registered.

Domain Name Registration is administered by U.S. Domain Registry, at the USC-ISI The provider is given a pool of IP addresses associated with this name by the parent core provider, such as CRL Network Services, crl.com. On the afes.com system, the IP addresses are assigned permenantly to the account holder and remains as long as the account is current.
